Just as I was looking forward to Christmas........
Sorry if this is seems like a list of gloom and doom, but I needed to share it and ask for your kind prayers.
I've had a phone call from my mum to say my aunt died suddenly after a fall in which she broke both of her legs (she had severe osteoporosis). It was such a shock for poor old mum. Added to this, my dad has been in hospital for 3 weeks. He originally went in to have his regular blood transfusion for anaemia but they found that he had fluid on his lungs. He sems to be deteriorating: he's had several scans, and now is geting fluid accumulating in lot of places. He could hardly speak on the phone yesterday. I suspect his heart is starting to give up. He's done well so far, considering he had a triple bypass in 86.My mum isn't in the best of health either, as she has emphesema and has only recently come out of hospital herself. I think dad was also exhausted as he visited mum every day for 2 weeks when she was in hospital. It worries me that I live so far away, particularly as my brother isn't very helpful.
Added to this, I also heard that an old college friend of mine has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
I just pray that the hospital can do something for dad and that he will be home for Christmas.
Plese remember us all in your prayers.
Maria x

Dear Maria,
I am sorry to hear about your aunt. What a shock for such a thing to happen and without any warning. I hope that your Dad improves soon. Very difficult when your parents are elderly and failing or ill. I can relate to your concern and added to mine is the guilt of distance. Please be to goodness that things improve for your Mum and Dad soon.

so sorry to hear your worrying news. I have had an awful year with family illnesses and bereavements. Try to take good care of yourself. I hope things improve greatly for all of your worries at this difficult time. It's hard to be festive with so many worries. I hope your Christmas is peaceful, with everyone improving health-wise. Lots of love Jan x

Oh Maria, what alot of heartache and suffering! I am so very sorry.
Please let me know the names of your Aunt and Father so we can pray for them.
I am planning on going to a special Rorate Mass tomorrow, sung in Plainchant by candlelight (7am!) so I will light candles for your family.
Much love and prayers,

Hi Maria
What a dreadful shock for your poor Mum - especially when she is worrying about your Dad and not in the best of health herself.
We pray that your Dad will be home and much improved to enjoy Christmas, that your Aunt's funeral is a celebration of the life of a much loved family member and that your friend receives early treatment which gives her a complete recovery.
Take care of yourself too, Maria
Much love Jeanxxxxx

Dear lovely friends.
Many thanks for your kind messages and thoughts- knowing that you are there for me is a great comfort. I must admit, I can't get into the Christmas spirit, I haven't even put the cards or tree up yet.
Mum managed to get a bit more information about dad- apparently his heart is so badly enlarged that they are having trouble draining accumulated fluid from various areas. It's unlikely that he will be home for Christmas. At least he is being well looked after. I've bought him one of those silly singing chicken toys for Christmas- he loves that sort of thing, and I'm sure he he will drive everyone in the ward mad with it!! I feel so sorry for mum as she hasn't seen him for over 3 weeks and because of her poor health can't really be taken up to the hospital to see him. I hate the thought that she might never get to see him again. I try to be optimistic but it isn't easy. I pray that they can get something sorted out- maybe the right medcation might help.
Amanda- thank you so much. His name is George Skako,my aunt's Margaret Daley. The service sounded lovely -despite the early hour!
Much love to all of you
Maria x
